The Art Witch Atelier: Art Witchery is a five-week study in creative occultism and self-expression.
Join Caitlyn Barone, an Art Masters Educator and Art Witch, in a 5-week course that explores art making as ritual. This course combines deep artistic study with generative prompts to infuse anyone’s creative process with an inspiring level of occult knowledge and practice. The classes will cover personal exploration through historical context.
This class allows artists of all levels to explore self expression, divination, and their unconscious material through historical context and inclusive spontaneous art making methods.
Each week, we'll meet at the virtual atelier via Zoom. Each class includes a lecture, demonstration, and studio time where we complete generative prompts and experiments as a group. All replays and recordings will be available if you can not make the live gathering. During the week, students will engage with each other and instructors through a dedicated Slack community where they can share their work, thoughts, and reflections, and find community with like-minded creative folks.
“If we consider magic as the practice of manipulating these invisible forces to shape our visible world, it could be said that the link between art and magic is one that reveals the hidden rules of nature and our world - and beyond - and also explores the shadowy inner realms of dreams and desires.”
-S. Elizabeth, The Art of the Occult

Week One
Art is a spell. In this class we will be introduced to the visual arts as a catalyst for creative occultism and self-expression. We will define art witchery, creative mediumship, and discuss how witchcraft and spiritual belief systems can inform a visual art practice in a way that is personal to the maker. We will explore combing the visuals arts with divination and channeling in our generative prompts. Students will create an Anchor Concept as a guiding thread throughout the 5-weeks.

“Our Craft is in our art, so we consider our relationship to our witchery much like a painter’s relationship to a painting or a baker’s relationship to bread. We are the maker, yes, and the art is made, yes, but what of that third, less definable force that is the practice of the making. In Celtic spirituality this is the “shaping.” There is the shape, the shaper, and the shaping in the holy trinity of artistry: it is in that third piece where the magick sits.”
