Welcome to Nü Poetry, a carefully curated poetry series, in which we feature some of the most exciting contemporary voices through bilingual productions, exclusively on Substack and our official WeChat account.
We aim to publish these features—with one poet per issue—as regularly as possible, and later turn them into pamphlets under our imprint, Nü Editions.

In this edition, we are featuring thirteen original poems by Cole Swensen, along with Chinese translations by Yě Yě.
Cole Swensen is an American poet, translator, and professor. She is the author of twenty books of poetry, most recently Veer (Alice James Books, 2026). A former Guggenheim Fellow and a recipient of the Iowa Poetry Prize and the San Francisco State Poetry Center Book Award, she has been a finalist for the Griffin Prize, the National Book Award, and the LA Times Book Award and was awarded the 2025 Paul Engle Award by the Iowa City UNESCO City of Literature. She also translates poetry and art criticism from French and has won the PEN USA Award in Translation, the 2024 ALTA National Translation Prize, and the 2025 Stephen Mitchell Prize. She divides her time between France and California.

这里，风景也近乎全是风                一个女人用一块
黑布            从头裹到脚            站在托斯卡纳的一条
栏杆上，上个世纪70年代中    颗粒感的    黑白影像
那块黑布不断被风重新摆弄                将身体的轮廓
勾勒成水银        她是在作品中使用实时影像的首位
艺术家，有时会将自己的表演与实时画面同步播放
画面滤成水银      成群树      在流离失所中        滤成
一场迁徙                作为背景的飘                使其成为
一种朝圣，层层薄雾                自她身后的山谷升起。
身体常常作为重点媒介出现在她作品中，但它绝非
自传性的               因此她刀枪不入。         层层薄雾
