Failures, etc.

So, after publishing ten photos and writing about the background, situation, motivation, etc., over the course of the last couple of weeks, the response has left me a bit understocked in the whelm department. Not a new state of affairs; my follower numbers have in fact swelled to the unbelievable heights of about three dozen, up from a little over two dozen. Dizzying stuff. Not that it’s a huge deal as, being Taiwanese, we’re not allowed to monetize our Substacks in any case.

It would be easy to return to my default suspicion, born out by decades of social media/online interaction regarding photography: When you get down to it, not that many people are interested in photography. It’s just an illusion cast by a great many people being intensely interested in Being an Interesting Person, i.e. garnering personal attention, which is then projected onto a supposed interest in photography. Which: Fair enough, but it does result in a lot of unmet expectations surrounding the subject, and I feel we could all save each other a lot of time by just admitting that that’s the case.

Then again, there’s not a lot of places to go with this supposition, so: I’ll ask you (and by you I mean either one or both of the people here who are interested in photographic musings, etc.): What kind of posts would you rather see? What kind of photos (or hell, even specific photos) would you like to know more about? And what aspect of the photo/situation/background are you more interested in? I’ve been careful to include at least the camera information that I know/can recall, including settings, etc. The photos themselves seem to be fairly popular; is that interested limited to just glancing at a small image, clicking Like and moving on?
