Our sweet neighbor texted me yesterday morning a music video of Blessing Offor (a Nigerian-born American singer/songwriter who performs gospel and contemporary Christian music) and Dolly Parton singing the song “Somebody’s Child” together. It’s a beautiful, uplifting song that instantly gets stuck in your head for the melody, yes, but also for the message behind it. It turns out, our neighbor’s daughter, Annie, who sadly passed away at 29 three years ago, was dating Blessing at the time of her passing. Our neighbor told me she remembers how excited her daughter was that Dolly wanted to record this song with Blessing, and I can see why. Please give it a listen. I promise it will brighten your day.
Another day of mourning Dolly. It really does feel like the entire world is in this together. She was one of a kind, wasn’t she? May we all strive to live our lives like she did: so unapologetically herself.
