Green Blackberries
May your ideas ripen and bear fruit like these lovely Blackberries did! (I can’t believe I didn’t have a snap of them all lovely and purple! LOL I take photos of EVERYTHING!)

The following came from a writing prompt during a workshop led by Matt Smythe from Glorious Mayhem. I’m sharing it to break my creative ice and because I like what I wrote. It’s short, maybe a little stark. When he gave us the prompt, my mind went blank and revolted - How the heck do I write about this? How can anyone know? I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, and I trusted in my ability (and my muse.)

The prompt went something like this:

The class was given about 10 minutes, and here’s what I wrote:

I didn’t edit this. I’ve shared it just as I scribbled it in my notebook. At first my brain got tangled up in overthinking about technology and climate change and politics. Sometimes, it’s tough to think very far ahead. What came out is pretty personal and simple. It’s me at 80, living in the same place. Picking berries like I did on the day of the late July class.

What do you all think life will be like in 30 years? It’s such a complicated question, I know. Try not to overthink it. See what comes up for you. Share, if you want.

Thanks again to, Matt Smythe from Glorious Mayhem for his Warts & All Creative Nonfiction Workshop.
