Inside the Mind of a Young NEET

A welcome report, putting further flesh on the bones of a policy challenge that has now been with us for 40 years. I was writing about this group, from a youth worker's practical perspective, in the 1980s, and I did the first research on them in the early 1990s, propelling them to political attention. Smatterings of policy have made little difference; a root and branch reform of education and training pathways to economic and personal futures is required. Peter Hyman has pioneered ways of doing education differently, through School 21, and we should listen very carefully to him, as he confronts the challenge of the 'NEET's (a dreadful term, by the way!).
