Big day for football — England beat DR Congo 2–1 yesterday to stay in the World Cup, with Mexico up next on Sunday. Screens are already going up around SE15 for a late night show, so tell us: where will you be watching?

Beyond that, this is a proper Saturday of a week. SET Social throws its doors open from midday to 3am for a reopening fundraiser (our pick of the week), while Bold Tendencies, Ivy House and Copeland Park all have full days and nights of their own — punk all-dayers, Reich’s Drumming, outdoor dancing till 9pm. Sunday’s a little gentler: a gallery finissage, a new weekly flea market, and Lai Rai’s first birthday party. Plenty to fill the diary either way.

SET Social is back — and throwing the doors open properly to celebrate. After an unexpected six-week closure during a lease transition, it is reuniting the community this Saturday for a day-to-night Grand Reopening Fundraiser: DJs, stalls, workshops, performances and more, running from midday right through to 3am.

The closure hit harder than a normal quiet patch. As a lean, community-funded space, SET relies on steady trade from the bar, café, memberships and bookings just to stay afloat — and six weeks with the doors shut, but the bills still coming in, broke that cycle. They’re now running a £23,000 campaign to cover the overheads and utility costs racked up while closed, so future income can go straight back into programming rather than plugging a hole. Worth being clear: this isn’t a last-gasp save-our-venue appeal — it’s SET being proactive about staying stable for the long run. Saturday’s aim is to clear the first £5,000 of that.

The easiest way to help is simply to show up. Come for the free daytime programme, which folds in SET’s regular Community Day + Market — stalls across crafts, ceramics, zines, vintage, records, bakes and books, plus drop-in life drawing and a charity book sale. SET’s still calling for traders, so if you make or collect things, get in touch. Stick around into the evening for DJs and the rest of the lineup, and if you can, spend at the bar or grab a raffle ticket — no outside drinks, as every sale on the night goes straight toward the goal. Magic Ted and friends bring electronic folk, performance art and Thames Valley myth-making to The Ivy House for the first London Fantasia. Across three acts, expect Evanion’s electric-folk album launch, Rain, Steam + Speed’s shadow-and-song river journey, and Chloe Langlois mixing comedy, art and the occult.

A strange little voyage, in the best possible way.

Steve Reich’s Drumming is a proper stamina piece: nine percussionists plus two vocalists and a piccolo player, moving through tuned drums, marimbas and glockenspiels as tiny rhythmic cells expand into something vast over four connected parts.

Bold Tendencies is a good room for this kind of repetition — architectural, hypnotic, a little bit out of ordinary time. One for minimalism heads, percussion nerds and anyone who likes their Saturday night with serious pulse.

A punk, dreampop and grunge-leaning all-dayer at The Ivy House, built around female and non-binary-fronted lineups. On the bill: BOSHE, Faint Images of the Radio Sky, Jackie Sees Red, Kalyani, Kaye and Milkstone.

Proceeds go to an LGBTQIA+ charity, so the brief is pleasingly simple: loud guitars, good cause, excellent pub. Very sensible behaviour, by rock standards.

Feel Good returns to The Carpet Shop with Jorg Kuning bringing one of his live electronic sets, plus support from Fern Clifton and local selectors.

The poster confirms a late one — 11pm until 4am, tickets on the door. Expect intimate, locked-in dancefloor energy rather than an early night.

A new one for the summer: Jumbi is launching an open-air daytime series in Copeland Park, running every Saturday and Sunday from May through to the end of September.

The idea is simple — togetherness through music and dance, outdoors, in daylight. Each session runs 3–9pm and brings together local and global selectors for a few hours of dancing under the sun, rooted in the same energy sound systems have always carried across cultures and generations. Capacity’s limited, so advance tickets are the sensible move.

A closing chance to catch Silvia Ziranek’s BY A THREAD incorporating UNSUNG SONGS at MOCA London. The centrepiece is a large-scale mobile — over ten foot — made from everyday materials like carpet tiles, wallpaper and picture frames, combining sculpture, text and audio to address violent behaviour towards women and girls and offer strength through solidarity.

The finissage includes live readings at 3:15pm, plus a screening of SHE’D SAY, a new work filmed at MOCA London. Drinks sponsored by Whitebox Cocktails.

This week’s headline new release is Minions and Monsters (U) — the yellow chaos agents relocate to 1920s Hollywood, teaming up with a green creature to track down movie monsters and, naturally, ending up saving the planet. Advance screenings run Wed 1 & Thu 2 Jul at 18:00 & 20:00, before it settles into the regular schedule from Friday.

Also new this week: The Invite (15) — Seth Rogen and Olivia Wilde (who also directs) star as a couple whose dinner party for their odd upstairs neighbours spirals fast, with Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton rounding out the cast. And for something stranger, Nirvanna: The Band, The Show, The Movie (15) follows two Toronto musicians whose plan to land a gig at their favourite venue turns into an accidental trip back to 2008 — daily at 21:00.
