There’s a proper start-of-summer feel this week: long light evenings, the SE15 rooftops open again, and every excuse to be outside.
Expect big music up on Rye Lane, a sunny-afternoon dance at Jumbi, art to browse at Copeland, and a Refugee Week supper club doing real good with food and music.

Thursday's a wet one: cloud and a band of rain in from the south-west, locally heavy at times, easing off but staying overcast into the afternoon. When Garland premiered on the Bold Tendencies rooftop last September, critics came away a little dazed — Bachtrack called it “dreamlike chaos in a Peckham car park,” all musicians, objects and voices (and a horse), thrilling and gloriously over-the-top. It’s back for two nights.
Oliver Leith’s hour-long piece is built for this exact space: an orchestra and chorus of around 130 singing, chanting and processing across the concrete levels, dragging metal poles and shopping trolleys as they go. Leith pictures it as a busy village watched like an exhibition — tiny repetitive activity everywhere, sitting somewhere between unsettling and beautiful. A free exhibition in the Clore Studio at the South London Gallery, made in collaboration with SEND school pupils and teachers from Peckham and Camberwell. Three artists — Yolanda Shields (Milktooth), Jenny Pengilly and Billy Ash Sakula — worked with young people from Tuke, Highshore and Cherry Garden schools to create new sensory and inclusive work.
This Is Allowed Space platforms voices that rarely make it into gallery spaces, and celebrates the creativity of young people with complex needs. It’s a quiet, generous show — and the kind of thing the SLG does really well.

FAUZIA is one of those artists who makes a room feel different the moment she starts. A multidisciplinary composer, producer and vocalist, she builds immersive sound worlds from ambient electronics, live instrumentation and experimental performance — her work has been picked up by Pitchfork, Resident Advisor and NTS Radio, with shows across London, Berlin and New York.
For this second Back to Breath session, she teams up with Barbora Pátková (a.k.a. B’licious) — founder of Innervisions Alchemy and voice of The Heliocentrics — for something genuinely rare: a live performance designed to soundtrack a guided breathwork session. It sits somewhere between a gig and a healing practice, and feels like the kind of thing you might not know you need until you’re in the room.

STST’s monthly exploration through sound, light and movement is back for its 19th edition. London musicians take it in the round — live sets in direct conversation with each other — while visual artists respond in real time, projecting across the walls. It’s the kind of night that builds its own atmosphere: interdisciplinary, open, and hard to describe until you’re in it.

A weekend pop-up from Nunhead illustrator SJ Gilmore, bringing her narrative illustration to Strange Parade. Picture-book warmth with a slightly uncanny edge, drawing on cloud formations, benevolent cemetery mounds, and an increasingly unsettling hunt for four-, five-, six- and seven-leaf clovers.
Gilmore has a background illustrating picture books, and it shows in the storytelling. Drop in any time across the weekend.

A weekend takeover of Copeland Gallery, packed with affordable prints, zines and originals from 40+ illustrators and designers — the kind of place you “just pop in” and leave with a new wall buddy (and a small bag of stickers).

The big one this week is Disclosure Day (12A), Steven Spielberg’s new sci-fi. Emily Blunt — fresh off The Devil Wears Prada 2 — plays a TV weather presenter who picks up strange abilities after an encounter with aliens, with Josh O’Connor as a true believer and Colin Firth as the shadowy exec they end up tangled with. Peckhamplex reckons it’s Spielberg’s best in twenty years.
There’s also a new Monday-night documentary strand worth a look — Rain Bomb, The Mystery of the First Temple and Beyond the Silk Road, all at 6:30pm.
Accessible screenings this week: subtitled showings of Scary Movie 6 (15) on Mon 15 Jun at 6:30pm and Tuner (15) on Wed 17 Jun at 8:50pm, plus a relaxed screening of The Magic Faraway Tree (U) on Sun 14 Jun at 12:45pm — a good shout for a low-key family outing.

The idea behind ‘Paired’ is a good one: put an artist and a chef of shared heritage in a room together, and let food, music and solidarity do the rest. After a sold-out first run, SUP’s supper club is back at Jumbi for Refugee Week — this time built around the theme of Courage.
This edition pairs South East London artist Jianbo with chef Andrew Ha of cult Vietnamese pop-up Angie’s Caphe, both drawing on their East Asian heritage for a one-off three-course menu: bo tai chanh beef carpaccio, grilled betel-leaf bo la lot (veg), Hainanese chicken risotto, sweet-and-sour aubergines, and a kalamansi-curd pavlova to finish. There’s a welcome drink made for the night by Malik Acid, and a live PA from Jianbo once the plates are cleared.
Run with Counterpoints, it raises funds for the South East and East Asian Centre — and five seats are held back for asylum seekers from local hostels, so if you can’t make it, you can still pay one forward.
