Hey therrrreeee, I hope your day is treating you just ducky! It’s been a while since I sent an update — I’m really sorry about that, it’s been quite the juggling act coping with ongoing pain from my back injury, family moving to town (hooray!), and spending a ton of time making frames for artwork that is going to be exhibited and going to local shops for sale. And of course, making a painting of my parents old home (I even helped with building it, turns out I’m excellent at wiring plugs and filling nail holes) as a housewarming present for their new home here in Victoria. 😍
If you’ve been following along on social media, you will have seen at the beginning of October I was doing a “Whaletober” project, a spinoff of the daily art challenge called Inktober. Due to all the deadlines of getting work submitted and finished for various upcoming exhibitions, I had to temporarily put that on hold. But I will be getting back to it as soon as all the work for exhibitions is done and art is out the door. I’m thinking of making these into an art print — there will be 31 marine mammals (all can be found in the Pacific Northwest), let me know what you think (or if you have other ideas for what you might like to see these on). 😊
And speaking of art prints, I have fiiiinalllllyyyyy finished scanning and editing all the bird illustrations I did for the 100 Day Project earlier in the year (man that was a lot of work), and I will be producing an art print of these soon. I may produce some prints of select images as well, like one just of all the raptors, etc. I will also be making art prints of some of my recent wildlife paintings, several of you have been asking me about that on social media (including this sweet river otter). For art prints I’ll usually offer a paper print option as well as a canvas print (and a few sizes), but of course if you have specific needs please feel free to reach out.
Some art that will likely be going into a local whale watching gift shop (I’ll announce details once the art is there) is my Reflections series. These will be helping raise money for the Whale Interpretive Centre in Telegraph Cove, BC, it (and half of the historic boardwalk and several businesses and a heritage home) burned down last New Years Eve. It’s a devastating loss, I spent so much time in the WIC as a kid, but they’re in the process of rebuilding. 50% of the proceeds of these paintings will be donated to the WIC. As for exhibitions, I’ve got these three pretty moody florals (all 8”x10”) in the Winter Small Works Show at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. Purchases can be made directly via the gallery if you’re out of town, or you can come see these in person (opening night is Nov 20 and the exhibition runs until Jan 25, 2026). Hope to see locals at the opening! ❤️
And here’s a special sneak peek at three other paintings that are going into the Little Gems exhibition to be held in the Bay Centre in Victoria (lower level, Dec 6-21). Only one of these images I’ve shown on social media so far, so you as a subscriber get the first official looks at the other two! 😍 The sea otter on the far right is in progress, he’ll be finished in the next few days, but if you saw my insane post on social media with the beginnings of this one, you’ll see how far it’s come in a short amount of time (this was only one more day’s work after the first layer was down).
And finally yes, the “seasonal” thing is upon us again. A week from now is Remembrance Day in Canada, and of course as a wounded veteran it’s quite a hard day for me. I have designed a few cross stitch patterns around it (I tend not to focus on themes like that, as it can contribute to my pain), and I’ve heard wonderful stories of people stitching them and donating them to their local Legion which is so heartwarming. This one in particular, Poppies in the Wind, is super popular and has been donated as a stitched project to several Legions around the world (or similar organizations) that I know about.
And of course, if you want to get a jump on some Christmas presents that won’t break the bank (but may break your relationships as several are very snarky 😂), there is the Merry Snarkmas collection. They’re simple so they can be stitched up quickly, and they’re great for using up random leftover bits of floss as well as you can easily change up the colours. This is one of the most popular in the collection, Deck the Halls… 😂
