Yesterday, I wrapped the last week of Cohort Three of my AI for Business course at University of Washington UW Professional & Continuing Education and for the final week, I decided to try something different (especially as Vecna seems hell-bent on destroying the earth soon!)
What’s fascinating about the course is that Cohort Three coursework looks entirely different to any of the previous cohorts, such is the pace of change. In fact, we even dedicate part of one week to build systems which help us stay on top of only the AI news that matters the most. What I did this week though was try and take a longer view of where things are headed because I now see three distinct changes in direction which I think will shape the GTM narratives of the main players.
Some paraphrased details below. Slides at the bottom:
Yann LeCun believes current models have hit their limit without worldly context. He left Meta so he could build that context layer.
OpenAI is chasing AGI at all costs. Feature updates are little more than AGI training tools.
Microsoft is chasing daily human utility (consumer) and agents (Enterprise). AGI “will happen when it happens”.
Google is still chasing AGI but is focused on delivering the most outstanding, integrated human utility to consumers and enterprise. It is the only provider offering full-stack integration from “chip to click”.
Anthropic is chasing AGI, but is the lone “adult in the room” and will only release once safe to do so.
If this was interesting, share with a friend. If it was useful, share with a recruiter!
