Friends,
Because I am an idiot, I have started yet another Substack page. This one is called Quiet Observations, and will consist of short, sometimes lyrical essays of quiet observation. No politics or polemics, no state-of-the-world rants or back-to-reality ravings. Just quiet, calm, beautiful writing, the kind that soothes the soul.
One reason I am doing this is because I find myself constantly drawn toward the political in my pop-culture essays, and I want a politics-free page. I don’t know about you, but I need some quiet time, away from the noise. Writing and reading essays is a good way to do that, in my humble and honed opinion.
The second reason I am doing this is because I know there are a lot of other people who enjoy the occasional quiet little comfortable essay as well. An essay like a reading nook, or a favorite blanket, one of those quiet little essays that makes you cry a little over your coffee. Just a little. Those sweet-sad soft essays we wear like fuzzy slippers. Like comfort against the cold of the world.
And I know there are a lot of writers who write them. Which means: I will also be publishing posts from guest writers. My plan is to start with one essay from me each month, and one essay from a guest writer. If I get enough other writers interested, I will add more guest essays.
If this sounds interesting to you, please subscribe at the link below. I plan to send the first Substack out later this week. One final note: I have enabled paid subscriptions because I want to be able to pay guest writers (and myself). Your support is greatly appreciated. Thanks for being here, and hopefully at my new page:
