TOMORROW is the day! We’re dropping our oldest, Caroline, off at college (and she’s joining me and John on today’s podcast to talk about it) but I have to share something with you, first.

It’s probably in the Top 5 of my most embarrassing moments.

Here’s what led up to it.

The last 7 days have been BONKERS in our house.

Tuesday was the first day of school.

Wednesday was my husband John’s 50th birthday.

Friday was my son JJ’s birthday.

Thursday and Friday, I was in Chicago at the Global Leadership Summit and then I flew straight to Myrtle Beach where I met up with the whole family for a baseball tourney that our youngest (Landon) was playing in.

On the flight from Chicago to Myrtle Beach, I had taken Benadryl because my allergies were killing me.

There was a layover and I was in a hurry to exit the plane and make my connection.

However, I couldn’t find my phone.

I asked everyone in my area to help me find it. We were looking on the ground, the area where my seat was, I started pilfering through my bag and then…

I found it.

It had been in my left hand the ENTIRE TIME.

I blamed it on the Benadryl but it was definitely a moment that reminded me of my humanity and gave all of us a good laugh.

So now anytime I’m looking for something, my family immediately asks me, “are you sure it’s not in your hand?”

I deserve that one.

In other news, tomorrow is the day. We’re dropping Caroline off at college. Am I prepared to let go?

I’m somewhere between incredibly proud and completely undone.

Caroline, John and I are talking about it on this week’s podcast. We’re addressing what it feels like from both sides: the parent and the child.

Caroline shares what she needs from us, how she’d like us to handle drop off and how she envisions our relationship in this new chapter.

Plus, we share our best college advice — the key that helped Caroline choose where she would attend college.

Before I go, one final update. I mentioned last time we connected that I was being summoned for jury duty. You guys, I was rolling my sleeves up, preparing for a riveting trial. But, the case was resolved the evening before we were to report for duty. So, I’ll have to wait until next time…

Looking forward to hearing from you all!

  1. One of Our FAVS🍲

MARRY ME CHICKEN: This remains one of my family’s favorite dinners and it’s what JJ requested for tonight’s belated birthday dinner. Pro tip: double it because it will get devoured.

  2. Some EXCITING News!

My kids book publisher told me that my book “Who Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up” is going back to print, which means it’s doing well — thank you for supporting it! Amazon has it on sale right now and a reminder that ALL MY PROCEEDS will forever go to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, as I’m a proud member of the BGCA board.

  3. Tell Me Yours! 📚

I was thrilled to read the news that one of my all-time favorite books, “The Silent Patient” is being turned into a movie. What should I read next? I’d love for you to share a few of your all-time favorite books with our community, here on Substack. COMMENT HERE!
