Here are changes we’ve made this year to improve the 2026 race series experience:
Multiple Distances: Based on participant feedback, we are offering two distances each week. To make our events more welcoming to families and beginners, Race #1 and #3 will have a 5K distance. For the Orienteering Challenge, there will be a short course with only 10 checkpoints so newbie orienteer’ers and parents can play/compete with their kiddos in the woods.
Race Dates: Pittsburgh Marathon is a thing, a big thing in this town indeed. Last year, we conflicted with those training and recovering from that big race the first weekend of May. This year we scheduled our race series dates for the end of May to allow for a full three to four weeks of marathon recovery. Plus, later in the spring will allow for more daylight and, hopefully, less slippy conditions.
Team Competition: If you and four other club or teammates sign-up each week, your squad will be eligible for individual race and overall series team prizes.
GCXC Racing: We’re thrilled to partner up with Jessika Coltz and GCXC to be our official timing partner in 2026. We couldn’t afford them the first two years, but thanks to sponsor support, we’re able to utilize their top-notch timing, event management and marketing assistance here in Year 3.
All races take place Wednesday nights at 6pm. Start and finish is from 7300 Reynolds Street, located across the street from the Frick Museum Parking Lot and the grassy area next to the Lawn Bowling Courts.
Race #1 on May 27th will have a unique course for the 5K and 10K distance.

Race #2 on June 3rd is the infamous Orienteering event. Stephen Wilson will be taking the reins from Kevin Tucker to design a short challenge with 10 checkpoints and a more advanced challenge with 20 checkpoints. Check out Kevin and 3Roc’s epic Pittsburgh Adventure Racing event on May 16th.

Race #3 on June 10th will be a looped course. One loop for the 5K and two loops for the 10K. Stay tuned for the release of the race route in late March, designed by Lucas Marsak.

Wednesday, May 13 6:30-8:30pm Pre-Series Pizza and Beer Party at CoStar Brewing (Etna). Run beforehand at 5:30pm. More details to come in April.

We sadly bid farewell to the original Point Breeze location after our lease ended on December 31st, 2025. I’m grateful for all the memories, community support and neighborhood encounters at this small but mighty storefront. The shop hosted everything from film screenings, magazine launches, the Filthy Five start, Dip-A-Toe’s holiday pop-up shop, an aquarium art show, HQ for the Frick Race Series, a reading dinner party, a winter walking book club, soapbox for a determined Point Breeze’er to dream up the most proper of Italian cafes, Point Breeze Yard Sale outdoor market, and Pittsburgh Bibliophile + Pittsburgh Zine Fair gatherings.
Version 2 of the Paper & Dirt newsstand will live on at a new location with better foot traffic and more consistent hours. Coffee is the answer!

I’ll be giving a 30-minute talk on print magazines as part of Two Frays’ monthly speaker series Thinkers and Drinkers.
Come out for a drink and hear why physical magazines are experiencing a cultural resurgence similar to vinyl records and film photography. We’ll have a show-and-tell of my favorite vintage and current titles.

Michael is a legend in sports photography. 49 seasons as the San Fransisco 49er’s official photographer - a role he still holds today - in addition to covering 42 Super Bowls, 12 World Series, and 14 MLB All-Star Games.
Until March 29th @ Sewickley Library - Looking For Things on the Rachel Carson Trail Photo Exhibition by Sean Carroll. Sean’s photos and article were featured in Issue 2 of Allegheny Sport & Outdoor Magazine.

April 2nd 6-9pm David Bernabo Show Opening, 00000, at Union Hall (located above Bar Marco in the Strip District). David led an architecture walking tour of Art Lubetz's work through Pittsburgh’s East End as part of our 2025 Winter Walking Series.
June 2nd 7pm @ White Whale Bookstore Andy Moore’s The Beasts of the East Book Launch. Andy has a great piece forthcoming in Issue 3 of ASO Magazine on Erie Bluffs State Park.
