Anyone else able to do DSR in 2025?

I was just curious, in the great 2025 calamity did anyone else get a DSR? Discontinued Service Retirement.

Story time!

I was with the United States Department of Education. 1,611, roughly 40% of the employees, were RIFed March 11 2025 at 7:38pm via email. I still have the picture of the email on my phone.

June 9th was the original end of service date for the RIF. Well like in all the cases I know of, the Union of course immediately sued because what was going on was illegal. The Federal circuit court agreed. Trump appealed. The Federal Appeals court agreed. Trump appealed to the Supreme Court - on the shadow docket on an “emergency” basis. Well of course we know how that went, party lines 6-3 on July 14th. Forgone conclusion. The Department already had its email written, and I heck you not two hours after the ruling we were all told you are fired and your separation date is August 1st.

And I went. Holy heck. I was 49 at the time. No way I could take the DRP or the VSIP they had offered. However. This was an important date. Little me started Federal service on July 31, 2000 with ED. So the new RIF date was exactly the day after I got my 25 years service. Which made me eligible for DSR. Not that the Department ever told me that, no I had to find that out in my own. I filed immediately.

How lucky was I? You can’t run those numbers. I plan on living a very long time and taking every penny from them in my admittedly small pension - 25% of salary is still 25% - and most importantly using my healthcare well until all those beautiful people leading the current administration are in the ground.
