Growing up in a quintessential English village isn’t something I ever thought I’d come to appreciate. At the time, despite the childish version of me seeming quite content, my teenage self couldn’t wait to get away from it all. The small, self-centric, and what I wrongly believed to be uncultured community felt suffocating. I couldn’t see or appreciate it for what it was and dreamt so dearly of building a bigger life for myself somewhere far, far away. So in a rather ironic twist of fate, finding myself in the position of inhabiting a hamlet and desiring to build a quiet, grounding, nurturing life of fulfilment feels like a full-circle moment. And this is the story of how it began.

But before I go on, Reader, I ought to add that this isn’t a story of nostalgia, lessons learned, or even what my life looks like now—it’s a story of simplicity, compassion, and becoming. It’s a story that, over the coming weeks, months, and—I hope—years, I plan to tell in as much detail and with as much heart as I’m able to. My story may not be special, it may not be unique, but it is mine—and through quiet reflections, humble acceptance, and kind eyes, I plan to share the past, present, and future with you.

This is the story of an artist. This is Little Life in the Hamlet, Chapter One.
