As I wave goodbye to my family after three wonderful weeks in sunny Miami, one simple line from Winnie the Pooh came to mind: “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”
I decided that this Note should be a bit about playfulness and kicking off the year with the wisdom of Winnie The Pooh and the nuttiness of Dr. Seuss.

My last name being a De Los Rios (Of The Rivers or From The Rivers, still wondering which one it is) myself this one touches a special chord.
“A little consideration, a little thought for others, makes all the difference.” —Eeyore
What’s wrong with knowing what you know now and not knowing what you don’t know until later?” —Winnie the Pooh
Dr Seuss
”Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you!”
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose”
“It is hard to fail but it is worse never to have tried to succeed”
“You’ll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut.”
Pooh reminds us that rivers are patient, which feels reassuring coming from a bear who moves at the speed of a slug. Seuss reminds us that our brains and feet can take us anywhere, which is helpful when we have absolutely no idea where “anywhere” is.
So as we begin another solar cycle, I say; gratitude for what was, love for what is, and a curious heart for what will be. Let’s make this year one of adventure, of boldness, compassion for one-another, of service and of love.
