South Molton students scoop double their number in high GCSE grades

South Molton Community College says it has enjoyed a good GCSE results day across a wide range of subjects

The South Molton Community College Year 11 group of 125 students have gained 208 GCSE grades at grade 7 and above.

The school said students had achieved “significant success” across a wide range of subjects, including 50 of the highest grade 9.

There were particularly strong outcomes in English language, humanities and sciences subjects where 71 per cent of computer science students achieved grade 5 or above.

Principal Rachel Harper said: “We are incredibly proud of our students and all that they have achieved. Today is about celebrating not only some outstanding individual and subject results, but also the progress our young people have made during their time with us.

“Our students have worked tremendously hard, shown resilience when faced with challenges and supported one another throughout their GCSE journey.

“To see 208 grade 7–9 results across the cohort, including 50 grade 9s, is a fantastic achievement, alongside some exceptionally strong outcomes across English, humanities, languages and sciences.

“Most importantly, every set of results represents an individual young person and their own journey. We are delighted to celebrate with them today and we are enormously proud of the young adults they have become. We wish every member of the Class of 2026 the very best as they move on to the next exciting stage of their education and lives.”

The school also thanked its staff for their expertise, dedication and commitment to students and parents and carers for the encouragement and support they have provided throughout the GCSE years.
