New Trails, New Stories, New Paintings

There are some big changes happening around NORDmi and it has been a bit of a creative stretch lately! The website has had a little makeover: the sneak peek is officially live. I’ve been having so much fun refreshing the space and making it feel more like a walk through the Northwoods.

I’ve also added lots of new snapshots, bookmarks, and a few new favorites, including my newest lage painting, “Blackberry Mouse”. While this fella got lots of attention at the Phyllis Olson Fine Art Fair, the work is still with me and looking for a new home.

On August 7, I’ll be heading to Alpena to lead a watercolor workshop for Huron Pines at one of their beautiful waterfront preserves. If you’re nearby, come say hello! I’d love to meet you and spend a little time painting together.

Now, only Labor Day’s Art in the Park in Port Austin, Michigan remains as my final outdoor show of the season. I also just committed to the Chippewa Nature Center’s Nature Art Show and sale in early December which will be the last show of the year.

This past week has been a little bit of everything. A few brushstrokes here, a little experimenting there, and a lot of playing with ideas and color. Sometimes that’s exactly what creativity needs.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time working on the website refresh, and honestly, that creative work has been just as rewarding as painting. Rearranging, rewriting, and reimagining the way NORDmi tells its stories has filled my cup in a different way.

The cooler weather this week has me thinking about fall already (too early? Maybe… but I can’t help it!). I’ve been moving colors around, exploring new ideas, and seeing what wants to emerge. Some will make it to paper, some will stay tucked away as inspiration for later. That’s part of the fun.

A little sneak peek! With my Dad’s incredible writing talents, I’ve published the very first Northwoods Note: The Secret Life of Cedar Swamps.

This new space is where I’ll be sharing deeper stories about the nature, history, and hidden wonders of the Northwoods. The official launch is coming August 1, and I’ll share the link here next week as part of the weekly update.

Since these stories will be a little more in-depth than my regular Northwoods News, this section will become a shorter preview with a link to the latest adventure.
