Much to your local army recruiter’s chagrin, you don’t have to enlist to get your hands on the best military surplus clothing, in fact some of the best stuff hasn’t been made for decades. But in spite of that, there’s some great dealers sourcing vintage military surplus in all sorts of configurations and price points, from collectible action-worn militaria, to affordable dead stock surplus. As I covered in my previous article, there’s all sorts of ways to purchase and wear old military gear without looking like you belong on a battlefield. What I like about vintage military surplus is that it’s using what we already have. Many of these items were manufactured decades ago and sat in warehouses. Rather than contributing to a demand for new production, buying military surplus is the clothing equivalent of cooking what’s in your fridge instead of going out to buy more groceries.
