Economic issues continue to occupy a central place in Canadians’ concerns, with jobs and the economy remaining the most frequently cited national issue. Inflation also remains a notable concern, while attention to Canada-U.S. relations has increased in recent weeks. Other issues such as healthcare, housing affordability, the environment and national unity continue to register, although at lower levels.
Federal voting intentions show the Liberals holding a lead over their competitors. Current ballot tracking places Liberal support at 45.6%, ahead of the Conservatives at 29.1% and the New Democratic Party at 12.9%, while support for the Bloc Québécois, Green Party and People’s Party remains below ten per cent.
Leadership preferences follow a similar pattern. Mark Carney continues to lead as Canadians’ preferred choice for prime minister at 53.6%, while Pierre Poilievre ranks second at 18.0%. Other federal leaders attract support in the single digits, and a notable share of Canadians remain unsure of their preferred choice.
Taken together, the findings suggest a relatively stable federal political landscape. Public attention remains focused primarily on economic matters, while developments related to Canada’s relationship with the United States continue to attract attention. At the same time, the Liberals maintain an advantage in both vote intention and preferred prime minister tracking, providing a snapshot of the current balance of public opinion as political parties continue to compete for support across the country.

Ballot – The latest Nanos federal ballot tracking has the Liberals at 45.6 per cent, the Conservatives at 29.1 the NDP at 12.9 per cent, the Bloc at 6.8 per cent, the Green Party at 4.0 per cent and the Peoples Party at 1.3 per cent.
Nanos Party Power Index – The Nanos Index which is a composite of a series of measures including ballot and leadership impressions has the Liberals at 64.6 points, followed by the Conservatives at 43.1 points, the NDP with 35.8 points, the Greens 29.4 points, the People’s Party 22.0 points and the BQ 35.7 points (QC only).
Preferred Prime Minister – Nanos tracking has Carney as the preferred choice as PM at 53.6 per cent of Canadians followed by Poilievre (18.0%), Lewis (4.5%), May (2.6%), Blanchet (2.4%), and Bernier (1.5%). Seventeen per cent of Canadians were unsure whom they preferred.

The Weekly Nanos Tracking is produced by the Nanos Research Corporation, headquartered in Canada, which operates in Canada and the United States. The respondents are recruited from a dual frame (land + cell-lines) random telephone sample of 1,000 Canadians using a four week rolling average of 250 respondents each week, 18 years of age and over.
The random sample of 1,038 respondents may be weighted by age and gender using the latest census information for Canada. The interviews are compiled into a four week rolling average of 1,000 interviews, where each week the oldest group of 250 interviews is dropped and a new group of 250 interviews is added. Current data is for the four week period ending August 7, 2026.
A random survey of 1,038 Canadians is accurate ±3.1 percentage points, plus or minus, 19 times out of 20.
Since voters are not actually able to make a choice between elections, it is interesting to think about party strength and support more broadly. The Nanos Party Power Index fills this need by incorporating more information than just current vote preference.
