Awareness Comes Before Change

If this week has felt quieter than past January resets, that’s intentional.

Most of us are used to starting January by doing more — more rules, more discipline, more effort. We’re taught that change only happens when we push harder.

But lasting change rarely begins there.

It begins with awareness.

Week one of The New Era is designed to slow things down on purpose. Before habits shift, before routines change, before anything feels “productive,” we start by noticing.

Noticing:

  • how you speak to yourself

  • how you approach food and movement

  • where pressure shows up

  • what feels supportive — and what quietly drains you

This part of the process doesn’t always feel exciting. Sometimes it feels uncomfortable. Sometimes it feels frustratingly subtle. And because it doesn’t look dramatic from the outside, it can trigger the thought: “Am I doing enough?”

If that thought has come up this week, you’re not doing it wrong.

That question is often a sign that you’re stepping out of autopilot — and autopilot is where most patterns live.

Awareness creates choice.
And choice is where real change begins.

When you slow down enough to notice patterns without immediately trying to fix them, something important happens. You give your nervous system a chance to regulate. You create space between impulse and action. You begin responding instead of reacting.

That’s not weakness.
That’s wisdom.

You may notice urges this week:

  • to push harder

  • to add more structure

  • to “get serious” about change

Before you act on those urges, pause.

Ask yourself: What am I actually needing right now?
More discipline — or more support?

For many women, the most radical shift isn’t doing more.
It’s learning to stay present without judgment.

If this week has surfaced resistance, impatience, or self-criticism, let that be information — not a problem to solve. Those feelings often show up when we slow down enough to hear ourselves clearly.

Let this week be about curiosity, not correction.

You don’t need to act on everything you notice.
You don’t need to change every habit at once.
You don’t need to have clarity yet.

Simply noticing is enough for now.

If you’re using the New Era Reset Workbook, this is where it can feel especially supportive — not as a checklist, but as a place to process what you’re noticing and put words to it.

And if you’re not using the workbook, that’s completely okay.

There is no “right” way to move through this experience. There is no version that requires perfection, catching up, or proving anything.

The only thing required is presence — and even that can look different from day to day.

You don’t need to answer all of these. Choose one that feels supportive.

  • What have I noticed about myself this week that I hadn’t noticed before?

  • Where do I feel more awareness — even if nothing has changed yet?

  • What feels lighter since slowing down?

  • Where am I tempted to push instead of listen?

  • What kind of support do I actually need right now?

Week one isn’t about momentum.
It’s about foundation.

And foundations are built quietly — one moment of awareness at a time.

You’re exactly where you need to be.

With love,

Nicole
