Updates: Misfit Progress and Publication

Hello Everyone, long time no message.

I hope you all have been well, and I pray for each and every one of you that this next month will be blessed and fruitful.

Though I have been MIA, I assure you I have not been idle; a lot has happened, and a lot has been done.

I have good news, sad news, and interesting news.

Good news: I have finished writing the book!

I finished back in October, and this last month or so, I have been working on editing and polishing; I read through the whole thing, highlighted the few tweaks that needed to be addressed, and now I think I’m really close to having this story ready for the world to see. If you are willing, please pray for me as I enter into this final stretch of releasing this story to the world.

Now, some of you who’ve been with me for a while may be wondering: ‘Ruby? Weren’t you publishing this story in an episodic format on Amazon a few months ago? what happened with that?’

Well, you’re right, I was, and that’s where the sad news comes in.

The Amazon platform that I was posting it to, Kindle Vella, is shutting down.

Kindle Vella is no longer taking new story submissions as of last month, and any existing stories will no longer be able to be updated and added to as of the 4th of this month, and Kindle Vella itself will be completely gone after February of next year.

As someone who has a history of writing stories episodically for most of my life on various platforms, it saddens me to see this one go.

but the show must go on, and this leads me to the interesting news.

Despite the inevitable shutting down of Kindle Vella, after a lot of prayer and petition, I believe the Lord has still called me to finish publishing all of the Misfits on that platform, so that’s what I have set out to do.

And, if the Lord says the same, potentially, a sneak peek of The Elect (Book 2 of New Quantico Files) may be posted at the end as well.

I’ve got it all scheduled:

(Some of my chapters were too short to be posted in their own episode and had to be combined with others, which is why there are only fifty-seven episodes, but there are 60 chapters total.)

Now, as they come out, those of you who may already be subscribed to the story (First and foremost, thank you 🙏🏼), I am unsure if you will be getting an email about the episode’s release. If you do, I hope and pray it’s in one email for each batch; if it’s not and they come individually, I am so so soooo sorry. A lot of chapters are coming out in very quick succession.

Per Kindle Vella’s structure, the first ten chapters are free to read, and the remaining 47 take ten tokens each to unlock.

Now you may be wondering again: ‘Ruby, if Kindle Vella is disappearing, won’t that mean we’ll lose access to the chapters we’ve unlocked once February hits?’

Great question, thankfully, the answer is no, you will not.

Any stories and episodes unlocked before the Kindle Vella closure in February will remain in your personal Kindle library even after the Kindle Vella Platform is gone.

Which makes sense, you paid for it, it’s now yours to keep.

Speaking of paying for it, let’s talk cost.

As stated above, each chapter after 10 costs 10 tokens to unlock.

The most cost-effective solution to unlock the entirety of the misfits would be to purchase two sets of the 300 tokens, which, if my math is correct, comes out to $5.58, and you would have some tokens left over if there were any other stories you may want to check out too.

(UPDATE: Make sure to purchase the tokens in your browser if you can. I just looked in the Kindle app, and it looks like the price for tokens is way higher for some reason if you buy it through the app instead of the browser.)

Now, there is one caveat which you may have noticed at the bottom of the screenshots:

You don’t have to use them by December 4th, but you must purchase them by then.

I’m sorry, I didn’t make the rules.

Because that date is vastly approaching, if it is the Lord’s will, I will try and send out a few more emails before then just to give everyone a chance to be notified and made aware in case they miss this email. One a day at most don’t worry I don’t intend to spam.

While I’m at it, I might even explain all the ways I’ve seen God’s hand through this whole process: Kindle Vella and just the book as a whole. But I’ll save that for other emails; this one is long enough as it is.
