Happenstance

Sometimes you step into situations, like when you turn a corner find the bakery is giving away free cookies. Happenstance means, a coincidental event or a situation that occurs purely by chance, especially one that results in a fortunate or unexpected outcome. It’s your lucky day! When you think about the scenario, did you really happen upon it or did you put yourself there, open for opportunities.

Earlier this year, I worked through the Artist Way book by Julia Cameron. She seems to insist that the “Morning Pages” are the fairy dust to happenstance. She encourages that the very first thing you do when you get up every morning is write 3 journal pages of free-flowing thought. It’s magic, or as Julia describes, “it’s God.” Good things happen.

I’m a realist. As much as I try, I struggle accepting “woo-woo!” But, I also know that there are a lot of mysteries still waiting to be discovered. I’m reading a book on Guglielmo Marconi (Thunderstruck by Eric Larsen) who developed wireless telegraphs using radio waves. Radio waves can’t be seen. And, once upon a time it was believed they didn’t exist, until they were realized. I’m open to accepting Ms. Cameron’s ideas, albeit with a little self-doubt.

Since January, I’ve been writing and writing. It has become habit, the alarm goes off and within 10 minutes I’m writing. But what is the payoff? Is it true that I will start manifesting things. Do I have to be specific, or can I just be open to possibilities?

Well, a tiny hint of an idea became reality for me this week. I will be busy until mid-July on a fun project. As I venture down this road, I wonder if this is just coincidence or was it because I allowed myself to be open to possibilities.
