Cute, snazzy, and charming all at once, Mazni is a Malay name, predominantly used for girls in its native Malaysia but also given to a small number of boys. Pronounced how it looks (maz-nee), its sound is as fresh as, well, rain after a few days of heavy heat.
I discovered Mazni a while back when updating Nameberry’s April baby names suggestions. “April showers” came to mind so I was thinking about names associated with rain, beyond the more literal Raina, Stormi, and Gray. Mazni was a favorite new find, meaning “rain” or “raincloud”, likely from the Arabi mazin.
I was reminded of this weather-related choice when coming up with names right in the middle of a heatwave in the UK, and enjoyed the refreshing nature of all over again.
