Gathering: Clearing the Fields and Honoring the Fire

In the Myth Workers’ Hearth, we’re always aware of the power of fire, but at our latest gathering, we got very intentional about the creative, destructive, sacred nature of this element.

At the heart of our time together: the goddess Tailtiu and the festival of Lughnasadh. Lughnasadh is a celebration of the first harvest.

Tailtiu was the goddess who cleared the fields until her body gave out. The first Lughnasadh festival was actually a funeral.

We imagined Tailtiu’s relationship to the land, to the trees that she felled and the clear fields that emerged through her work. We imagined her relationship to her own body, to her own sense of invincibility and exhaustion, to work and overwork.

And then, as ever, the members of the circle brought their own powerful reflections, taking the conversation deeper and expanding it beyond our wildest imaginings.
