Witches, It’s All in the Laundry

When I was young teen and first started dipping my toes into the world of Witchcraft, I believed that I could only ever become an official witch if I was casting spells and reciting incantations on a daily basis with each one being a complete success. If I wasn’t sat sweating around my cauldron 24/7, then I was a fraud.

I was wrong.

Obviously.

14 years down the line, and well yes I still do cast spells but my practice doesn’t involve slumped around my cauldron and casting 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Because quite frank, that sounds exhausting. Your energy is expensive.

While spells do make up let’s say 30% of my practice…the other 70% is the little mindful things I do each day. The intention in the everyday life.

Just because spell casting doesn’t make up 100% of my practice, it doesn’t mean that I am any less of a witch. Or what my teen self would say…a fraud. If anything, I would say I’m more of a witch now, than I have ever been.

Okay, I can already hear you saying. “Lilly if you’re not casting spells, then what the hell are you doing and how can it be witchy?”

My response: “intention, is intention. It comes down to managing your Energy Budget”.

Let me get my maths brain on. Between working, tidying the house, cooking dinner, grocery shopping, running errands, and trying to stay sane, most of us end up with only a small amount of energy left after all of that. We have so much other stuff doing, that finding the time or energy to squeeze in a big spell after all the other bits we’ve just done, will be draining within itself. Let’s be honest, there is never enough hours within the day.

If we try to then squeeze massive spell workings and rituals into a day where we’ve got 100 and a million things to do, none of us would ever have the strength or desire to be a witch. We’d just burn out. The last thing we want is for witchcraft to feel like a chore too.

That’s where Intention comes in.

Intention is a focused mental state where we consciously direct our energy, attention, and purpose towards a specific outcome. Us witches like to multitask. Finding intention in the everyday means we don’t have to spend energy we don’t have casting spells all day to get the dream life that we want. We can save and bank up our energy for the heavy-lifting spellnwork for when it’s actually needed and when we feel called to cast.

Remember that 70% I was talking about earlier? The 70% made up of mindful things I do each day? This is how I do it, without draining my own bloody battery: I go about my usual boring everyday tasks that need doing and add in a drop of intention to turn them into a beneficial part of my practice. Work smarter not harder witches!

• Folding the laundry? Done with magical intention.

• Washing the floor? Done with magical intention.

• Driving the daily commute? Done with intention.

It is all about your intention, not the spells that you cast.

Intention. Intention. Intention.

And also energy is energy. It cannot be created or destroyed, meaning we have a finite resource. It’s time we use our intention so that we can spend our energy wisely.

This means if you’re directing intention into your morning coffee, you’re turning it into a mini spell within itself, just minus the candles, cauldron and lengthy ritual.

Carrying intention with you throughout your day, can be something as simple as a nod of acknowledgment.

The secret to my 70/30 practice comes down to one simple thing: I don't need to add new tasks to my day; I just change the way I approach the tasks I’m already doing.

You already have to do the washing up. You are already going to make your bed (hopefully). And you certainly, will be drinking water! (this is your reminder, go get a glass!)

So, why not turn these boring tasks into something that is going to help you to manifest your dream life without having to get your candles out and dust off your altar.
