26-230: Trusting What You Cannot See

WELCOME

Elisha’s servant woke up one morning to find their city surrounded by an enemy army, and he panicked. Elisha wasn’t worried. He prayed one specific thing: Lord, open his eyes. And when the servant’s eyes were opened, he saw the mountain full of horses and chariots of fire, an army of God’s own that had been there the entire time, invisible until that prayer.

Nothing changed about the situation. What changed was what the servant was able to see.

THIS IS FOR YOU IF...You’re surrounded by circumstances that look overwhelming, and you can’t see any way out, and it feels like you’re facing this completely alone.

Stay with me. There may be more surrounding you than the enemy you can see, and I want to show you what Scripture says about that.

What you can see is never the full picture. Faith trusts what’s actually there, even before your eyes are opened to it.

MAIN MENTORING

The servant wasn’t wrong about what he could see. The army really was there, real horses, real chariots, a genuine threat. His mistake wasn’t in what he saw. It was in assuming that was the entire picture. Elisha didn’t argue with him about the danger. He prayed for his eyes to open to what else was true.

I want you to notice that the army of fire didn’t show up the moment Elisha prayed. It had been there the whole time, surrounding the surrounding army, protecting them before the servant ever panicked. His fear didn’t create a need for God to send help. It revealed that he couldn’t yet see the help that was already in place.

That’s what faith is doing in your life right now, in a season where your circumstances feel like they’re closing in. The definition in Hebrews isn’t faith as wishful thinking. It’s faith as substance, as evidence, of something real that simply hasn’t become visible to you yet. What you can’t see isn’t imaginary. It’s just not opened to your eyes at this moment.

You don’t need the mountain to fill up with fire before you trust it’s there. That’s what faith actually is: trusting what’s real before your eyes catch up to it.

DAILY ACTION

Name what’s surrounding you right now that feels overwhelming. Then pray Elisha’s prayer over your own situation: Lord, open my eyes to see what else is true here, beyond what I can currently see.

THE DAILY CHARGE

What you can see is not the whole story. There is more surrounding you than what’s surrounding you. Trust that before your eyes are ever opened to prove it, because that trust, not the sight, is what faith actually is.

LET’S PRAY

Father, my circumstances feel overwhelming, and I only know how to trust what I can see. Open my eyes the way You opened the servant’s. Help me trust that there’s more true about my situation than what’s currently visible to me. Build in me the kind of faith that doesn’t need proof before it believes. In Jesus’ name, amen.
