1 large Honeycrisp apple, thinly sliced or diced
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup water
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla bean paste
instructions
Add the apple, brown sugar, water, and cinnamon to a saucepan.
Bring to a boil, then reduce to a gentle simmer.
Simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla bean paste.
Let cool, then strain into a jar. Refrigerate.
Save leftover apples for yogurt, oatmeal, or ice cream toppings.
brown sugar caramel
ingredients
4 tbsp salted butter
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/2 tsp vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
Pinch of salt, optional
instructions
Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium-low heat.
Add brown sugar and stir until melted and bubbling, about 2 to 3 minutes.
Slowly stir in the heavy cream and simmer for another 1 to 2 minutes, until smooth and slightly thickened.
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Add a pinch of salt if desired.
The caramel will thicken as it cools.
iced caramel apple latte
for one latte
1 tbsp brown sugar caramel, plus more for drizzling
1 to 2 tbsp apple syrup
Ice
6 to 8 oz milk
2 shots espresso
Optional: whipped cream, cinnamon, or caramel drizzle
Add the caramel and apple syrup to the bottom of your glass. Fill with ice, pour in the milk, then top with freshly brewed espresso. Stir everything together and finish with an extra caramel drizzle if you want it sweeter and more dessert-like.
