“No one can write your story but you.”
— Ms. Glayring
Your voice matters.
It is natural to look at other writers and wish you could write like them.
You may try to copy their style or use words that do not feel natural to you just to sound more impressive.
But when you do this, you lose the very thing that makes your work special.
Your voice is shaped by your experiences your background your feelings and the way you see the world.
No one else has exactly that combination.
It may feel quiet or unpolished at first but it is the only voice that will ever feel truly yours.
The more you try to be someone else the more you confuse your readers and yourself.
The more you trust who you are the clearer and stronger your writing will become.
Exercise
Write a short paragraph describing a memory or feeling that only you have experienced.
Do not use big or complicated words.
Write it exactly as you would say it to a close friend.
When you finish, ask yourself if this sounds like you and why.
What You Feel
You will feel proud and grounded.
You will stop comparing yourself to others and begin to appreciate the uniqueness of your own perspective.
You will feel more confident in sharing your thoughts as they truly are.
