Marie Jaster · More Than Beige

A new edition of 7 Days, 7 Ways has just landed in your inbox. Every Sunday, I share seven outfits from my week – the combinations that survived real life, changing weather forecasts, long walks, coffee spills, and last-minute plans. Consider it a weekly wardrobe diary: part outfit inspiration, part personal experiment.

The silly season has officially arrived. My calendar is blessedly empty, my to-do list definitely isn’t, but somehow I still feel more relaxed. Turns out it’s much easier to enjoy a quiet season when you know the chaos is waiting just around the corner. And in fashion, that chaos usually returns in September.

Until then, I’ve been picking up my son from daycare early, next stop ice cream (of course!), and then spending the afternoon doing whatever he’s in the mood for. Most days, that involves sand and a playground. So yes, this week’s outfits are as casual as they come. But they’re also proof of just how much I love my red drawstring trousers.

If you’ve ever stood in front of your wardrobe thinking I have nothing to wear, this newsletter is for you. And if you upgrade to paid, you’ll get twice-weekly editions that genuinely change the way you get dressed.

Monday started with good intentions and 30-degree weather. After a glorious Sunday at the lake, I actually felt rested for once, so naturally I kicked off the week with a workout.

The state of my week – and, honestly, my inner self – is probably best reflected by my mirror. It’s both a blessing and a curse. My son loves dancing in front of it (and touching every square inch of it), and I simply can’t clean it as fast as he can leave new fingerprints behind. So... please excuse the smudges. I’ll do better. Or at least I’ll try.

Since my beloved Pilates studio closed after ten years, I’ve been feeling a little lost when it comes to workouts. So I’ve gone back to one of the few fitness constants in my life: Melissa Wood Health. It’s still the program I return to whenever I want to feel stronger, calmer, and more like myself.

If you’ve been curious to try it, you can use my code MARIEJASTER5 to get $5 off your first month. I’ve recommended Melissa’s workouts for years, long before I had a discount code, so I’m genuinely happy I can finally share one.

The outfit matched the mood of the day: unfussy, comfortable, and entirely built around sitting at my desk for hours before rushing straight to daycare for parents' evening. The top is actually a Victoria's Secret pyjama shirt – proof that sometimes the best daywear was never meant to leave the house. The trousers are just the perfect, no-fuss linen pair that goes with absolutely everything, and I added a few buttery yellow accessories to make the whole thing feel a little more intentional.

Tuesday might just be the quickest – and least exciting – outfit I’ve worn in a long time. Another full day at my desk, followed by yet another sprint to daycare.

I cut it so fine that I didn’t even have time to change out of my at-home desk clothes and think of an actual outfit. Instead, I reached for whatever was waiting on the infamous “chair” in the bedroom – you know, the one that’s neither wardrobe nor laundry basket, just a temporary holding place for clothes that are definitely being worn again.

Wednesday was another writing day, so I spent the morning glued to my laptop until it was finally time to leave the house for an event with a friend.

The wind had picked up a little, which felt like the perfect excuse to bring out a lightweight long-sleeve again. And yes... the red drawstring trousers made yet another appearance. At this point, they’re less of a pair of trousers and more of a personality trait.

After the event, we grabbed lunch together before I headed home to spend the rest of the afternoon with my mum and my son. Nothing spectacular, just one of those slow, lovely summer days that somehow feel even better because they're so ordinary.

Thursday caught me off guard. My period arrived, and with it came an overwhelming desire for comfort and familiarity – which, unsurprisingly, led me straight back to the red trousers waiting on the chair.

I paired them with this white Dôen blouse, which is exactly what I want to wear when it’s 30 degrees outside: airy, lightweight, and forgiving in every possible way.

It was one of those days where I had to be five different versions of myself. Desk work in the morning, daycare pick-up, toddler gymnastics, a coffee date, birthday present shopping, and then a meeting at 5:30 pm – with my son in tow. He came along, ate an ice cream during the meeting, and was an absolute star. By 7 pm we finally made it home, completely exhausted, both of us.
