This New York City painting above will be in my new book, Twenty-One Years in Truro, that is coming out September 1. The book accompanies my upcoming exhibition at Truro Center for the Arts, September 8-20, 2026. The exhibit and book are primarily about my work on the Outer Cape, but both include paintings from other places such as Cape Porpoise, New York City, Paris and San Francisco. This view above, is from the Brooklyn park across the East River from Wall Street, but the figures are two people I saw in a park in San Francisco — thus the title. I occasionally collage different views to get a painting that feels complete and mysterious.

My time in North Truro has benefited all of my painting. It’s not a place that I return to over and over again to copy, but something of a laboratory where I can keep exploring color and perception because of the Outer Capes special topography.
