Never Give Up by Miranda Miller

Hello Everybody,

Those of you who knew Tim and Judith will recognise these images of Tim in his Islington studio and one of his many paintings of Judith. You will want to know that their flat is now being sold. That yellow front door so many of us loved no longer opens onto their rich world of paintings and books but Tim’s work is safe in his Hackney studio and will be well looked after. Most of the money raised from the sale of their flat will be used to fund a scholarship, administered by the British School in Rome, for a young British artist to go to Siena each year. This was what they both wanted.

My daughter Rebecca has returned from her great adventure, a one week 120 km walk in the Sahara Desert to raise money for charity. This is a cause close to both of our hearts because we both had to go through so called “early cancer” and were lucky enough to survive it. She has so far raised nearly four thousand pounds for the charity: https://www.justgiving.com/page/rebecca-rohrer-1 Together with about a hundred other women, she walked through very tough conditions, including a sandstorm. Gordon and I are trying to grasp the mysteries of digital publishing in order to reprint my seventh novel, The Fairy Visions of Richard `Dadd, next summer to coincide with the exhibition at the Royal Academy: Richard Dadd Beyond Bedlam, 25 July - 25 October 2026. Gordon hates computers and I don’t really understand them so this isn’t easy. I had to invent an imprint to do this, and didn’t want to form anything as businesslike as a company, so I’m going to be a sole trader as Never Give Up Books. My friend, the designer and illustrator Steffi Hofmann, has designed this logo for me:

Why a bat? Well, I’m short sighted, a bit nutty and eat a lot of fruit, so it seemed like an appropriate daemon or avatar. The gothic lettering of “books” is a nod to the fantasy in some of my novels; Richard Dadd’s visions carry him to 21^st century London.
