A megajoule (MJ) is a unit of energy equal to one million joules (J). In simple terms, it’s the energy transferred when a force of one newton moves an object one meter—or scaled up, the work needed to accelerate a 1 kg mass to about 1,414 m/s (ignoring losses). MJ is useful for describing large kinetic energies in weapons, vehicles, or explosions, where smaller units like kilojoules would be cumbersome.
