Let’s go inner space exploring

Here’s a short Q and A, plus some discussion. It explores a positive attitude to fear that’s now popular as a strategy for becoming more self-aware and ideally, more spiritual.

If we aim to be more spiritual, we should see everything as positive, including all our fears. Our fears should have a positive purpose in our lives. This is a common belief in personal and spiritual development circles.

Ideally, we ought to love our fears. Improbable in actuality – but we can at least maintain a positive attitude to their regular appearance in our lives.

Why would we want to love fear? Here’s a popular answer, that’s intended for increasing self-awareness:

My fears are my life teachers. Now my fears have been allotted purpose. And it’s a high one.

What’s the purpose here? When I choose to believe my fears are my life teachers, they can show me what I need to fix so I can grow. A popular belief, but is it true? Yes. If you believe it, it’s true for you.

What’s the value of holding such a popular belief? Where is the advantage for ‘progression on the path’?

My fears are my life teachers. This welcome rationale gives purpose to my fears. It makes my fears make sense to me. My fears can function as an asset in my life, especially for my spiritual advancement – otherwise they wouldn’t.

This positive reasoning helps me to see good purpose for my fears instead of always thinking they are wrong, or they’re a bad thing, as I was originally programmed to believe.

The next question here would logically be: What can my fears teach me? and the exploration would take that predictable direction, such as My fears can teach me where and when I need to be courageous and My fears can show me that they’re false evidence appearing real.

But here’s an unpredictable direction for inner space exploring instead.

Next question: Why do I need purpose?

Why do I need purpose, including a positive purpose for holding fear?

I believe I really need a life of worth and purpose. Because when I have a sense that I have use and purpose, I can feel I have a handle on my life. If I have no sense of purpose in my life, I’ll have no handle on it . My life would be out of my own hands, so to speak, and I could aimlessly drift. That aimlessness could prove to be too risky, really dangerous even.

Why do I sense the need for a handle on my life? So I can direct my life in the right direction. So that I can manage it and feel my mastery over it.

Having a purpose to hold onto, gives me the control I always feel I need. I need to see a purpose for my fears, otherwise I am honestly afraid I’ll just stay at their mercy. My life will be out of my own control.

Why do I always feel I need control? Because bad things can happen to me if I don’t have it. If I can’t get a grip on my fears, by way of giving them a handle as my useful teaching tool, they could overpower me and overwhelm me.

Why do you think like that? Because I am afraid. I’m afraid that if I can’t put a handle on my fear then I don’t have a way to control it.

So – what’s a good way to get rid of this fear then, especially before it gets overpowering enough to feel that it has beaten you, and made you lose your way?

Instead of perpetuating my old belief that all my fear is bad for me, and staying scared it could take over, I can intentionally release that limiting belief. I can turn my attitude to my fears around and give fear a positive purpose in my life instead.

I can put a handle on the fear I feel as my important teacher and start to feel less scared of it, and its potential to have power over me and get me down.

Once I’ve got a proper handle on my fear, I can handle it. I can manage it. Once I can view fear from a positive angle as my teacher, in my quest to become more self-aware and more spiritual, I’ll feel my life is back in my control. I won’t have to be concerned about all the fear I feel. I can get on top of it before it gets on top of me.

Wise plan.

A look within took an unpredictable direction and made fear a learning tool, able to be handled, and not experienced in the usual way from a negative perspective where fear could take control and could take over. Extraordinary insight has been gained.
