It gets cold up here fast - it reminds me of what Halloween felt like in Northern NJ before our climate started roasting. I don’t bristle at cold: it makes me feel alive, walking around with breath streaming out of my mouth always makes me crave a cigarette too. Different vices for a different time.
We are spending a little more time inside, processing acorns into flour, peppers into hot sauce and pizza into extra adipose insulation. The occasional trip down to NJ at least offers a 10 degree difference in warmth…like a tropical vacation.
I’ve found myself needing to budget a bit more these days - not that shooting black and white film and developing myself is particularly expensive - and picking up a digital camera occasionally. Still wouldn’t say it scratches the same itch as film, but it’s better than not shooting at all.
I will say I still don’t know how to edit color worth a damn - if any of yall got good resources for that, let me know. I’ve relied on certain films and their output for so long, I’m flying blind digitally.
Fall still offers plenty of excuses to get out and shoot - and im looking forward to winter up here. I do find adverse weather enjoyable for some reason. Everything stops while nature runs. Cuts things down to the essentials.
I just got to spend a little time in Italy with my family - once in a lifetime trip. I’ll hopefully have something good to share besides the usual tourist vistas once I get that film back. Until next time - embrace the cold.
