🛡️ What does resilience mean in 2026? 🛡️
Customers are racing to deploy new AI capabilities and unlock use cases that didn't exist six months ago. But the smart ones won't move unless they have a plan to recover.
Customers don't just want somebody who stores a backup or moves data, they want partners who know what that data is and can get it back really quickly.
🏢 Why is "enterprise" being redefined? 🏢
Enterprise used to mean headcount. In the agentic world, it means workloads.
How many applications are you running? Can you perform, secure, generate, and move quickly?
Law firms and education institutions you'd never call "enterprises" are now operating at enterprise scale, with enterprise security, protection, and disaster recovery requirements.
And when an agent makes a change instead of a human? No one cares who made it. You still need to move forward or back with confidence.
🧠 What is Brian's advice for builders in this era? 🧠
Boston has a unique edge: we're aggressive, but intelligently aggressive. We need to continue to drive fast, but with the seatbelt still on. Keep the human in the loop.
Go fast, stay impatient, but bring the diligence and insight this community is known for. That's how we’ll survive and succeed when new AI models ship at lightning speed.

Glimpse is building software for high throughput CT scanning to power battery quality control.
As the world electrifies and industrializes for the next generation of manufacturing, this team is building technology to hunt for the tiny defects inside battery cells that can cause fires, explosions, and all sorts of failures.
📈 What is Peter and the Glimpse team excited about heading into 2026? 📈
The team just closed a growth investment from In-Q-Tel.
They're also working to expand both within batteries and into non-battery applications, since CT is widely used across countless industries.
Their team is now around 20 people, growing slowly but steadily, with customers ranging from small startups sending in a couple of parts to some of the largest cell producers and OEMs in the world.
🤔 What would Peter pass back to other early stage builders? 🤔
The Boston startup ecosystem is central to the Glimpse story. They owe much of their success to Greentown Labs and the people who build it, run it, and show up every day.
Without Greentown, they wouldn't have reached the place they are today.

Cynthia Liao, Co-Founder & CEO of Vertical Semiconductor joins 🔥 The Lantern 🔥
Vertical Semiconductor is commercializing a new class of power semiconductor, leveraging vertical gallium nitride, to make data centers dramatically more efficient.
After nearly a decade of research at MIT, this team has built a chip more performance than silicon or silicon carbide with higher efficiency, faster switching, and incredible power density.
Vertical Semiconductor is the first in the world to vertical GaN on an eight-inch fabless approach, built right here in Boston area at MIT’s Lincoln Lab, using existing silicon tools to produce state-of-the-art GaN.
🗺️ What's happening in 2026 at Vertical Semiconductor? 🗺️
After spinning out of MIT and setting up at Greentown Labs in Somerville, this is scaling year.
Cynthia and team are growing headcount and moving from prototype volumes to commercial availability, transferring their proprietary process to a commercial foundry to meet data center demand.
The opportunity is massive: roughly 40% of the energy entering a data center is lost in power conversion and distribution.
Their technology can recover 10 to 15% more power out of every data center, turning power from a cost driver into a revenue driver.
🤔 What has Cynthia learned building this company? 🤔
As a non-technical co-founder partnered with two MIT researchers, her biggest lesson is that deep tech is more accessible than people assume.
You can bring skillsets from across other industries to make hard tech come to life, both on chip design and manufacturing, and on commercialization and go-to-market.
Her journey didn't start in power electronics, and now she's teaching others along the way.
🤝 How can we help Vertical Semiconductor grow? 🤝
They're looking for early pilot customers in energy and power, especially anyone focused on data centers, to demonstrate what the technology can do at the system level.
