This is a series for paid subscribers, highlighting multi-shaft weaving patterns and drafts often inspired by my artist practice.

In June of 2025 a friend connected me with two women from Piedmont Fibershed in central North Carolina. Piedmont Fibershed had acquired equipment and yarns from a textile company that went out of business, and they were hoping to put together a maker space. The women wanted to poll businesses with a successful model, and had some questions for me about how I developed Weaver House.

We had a lovely chat, time went by, and then my friend forwarded me the announcement of the Piedmont Fiber Lab — a 3,000 square foot maker space with production-scale handweaving looms, sewing machines, and other tools. Alongside this, Piedmont Fibershed is also selling gorgeous weaving yarn in their online shop. I immediately bought some 4/2 cotton, 3/1 linen, and 7/1 linen.

Linen is almost always my preferred warp, but there is something uncomplicated about warping with cotton — it’s soft to the touch, easy to tension, and offers a relaxed beat. When I received the yarn in the mail, I felt anxious to make something with the 4/2 cotton, equally obsessed with the color and tactility.
