Megan Sommers · At the Table with Megan

Every month I pull together the things I keep reaching for, opening, reading, and coveting. Here is July.

On my table right now

These Beachside Pavilion paper plates from Pavilion Paper. As much as I love a china plate, there are many times, especially during the summer, that you just want paper plates and these are so cute!

In my glass

Years ago I was visiting a friend in Baton Rouge in the summer and she pulled her red wine out of the fridge. Ever since, I love a cold cabernet sauvignon in the summer. If you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend.

In my kitchen

I first made this chicken taco salad a few months ago and I’ve been keeping it in my rotation. Plus, I find that these types of dishes deconstruct well into plates of food my kids will eat.

On my nightstand

Not exactly on my nightstand, but I am doing a lot of outdoor walks and am really loving this Supergoop Glow Screen SPF.

Coveting

I love this polka dot dress for summer and then this one for late summer and fall.

Pinning

The newspaper is down on the table. The enamelware tray is full. The lowcountry boil is being dumped right onto the paper and everyone is reaching in at the same time. The beers are cold. The crab dip is already gone.

A lowcountry boil does not need a tablecloth or a centerpiece or a carefully folded napkin. It needs newspaper, cold beer, and good company. This is the most lowkey table in the series and the one that requires the least setup. The food is the whole event.

The Table

• Newspaper or butcher paper covering the whole table

• Paper plates are perfect for this meal. I’d grab some more of these Pavilion Paper plates.

Enamelware tumblers

The Menu

Crab dip with crackers or bread to start

Lowcountry boil — shrimp, crab, corn, potatoes, andouille sausage

• Crusty baguette served in this bread basket — trust me on this

• Mac and cheese (mostly for the kids)

Blueberry Olive Oil Cake

• Cold beer throughout

The Outfit

A low country boil doesn't ask much of you — and neither should your outfit. This gingham romper or striped knit set (top and shorts) is exactly right for eating outside with people you love, sand still on your feet or these clogs.
