Hi Friends,
We're officially in May, which in San Diego means the season of shadows — May Grey, June Gloom. It's good writing weather. I'm in Week 6 of 16 in revisions of Stress Protection Factor.
It’s deep work, sometimes with my own shadows. What season are you in currently?
A few milestones from April:
Thanks to Anita, we finished our first-ever batch of 50+ unique Heart Rocks. These will go into an SPF starter kit for founding readers when the book ships in August/September. For now, they will be charging up in Ocean Beach — soaking in sunshine, salty breeze, and good vibes.
Latest chapter revised: Why Sense > Stress. When stress gets us stuck in our heads, leaning into our senses, our invisible, intelligent sentinels, is the first line of defense against stress, helping us catch it before it becomes chronic and settles into our nervous system as a permanent resident.
Think about this: Before you visit somewhere new, you often say, “I want to get a sense of the place.” That means more than reading about it or thinking it through. It means feeling it with actual physical senses.
Chapter Four is all about getting a sense of ourselves — in a curious, non-judgmental way, and how Sense > Stress.
One takeaway from Chapter Four:
You cannot be fully present and stressed about the future at the same time. They literally run on different parts of the brain. We can’t fully drive both at once. That means you can switch between the Stressed/Present modes.
Try this: a simple grounding technique that engages each sense for a mini stress intervention (60 seconds):
Experience this live: I’m hosting a new session on Insight Timer to practice this together — Morning Sense. It’s an experiment, so expect me to be unpolished but present. We’ll start the day with mindfulness that unlocks insight and guided coaching flow to help you create a supportive vision and sense into your best day.
