"Too many American lives have been lost in completely avoidable accidents because illegal aliens have been granted commercial driver's licenses."
— Stephen Miller, White House Deputy Chief of Staff
I have been watching this story build for months.
Reading the headlines. Sharing the statistics. Writing about the border and what four years of Biden’s open-door policy has done to this country.
And then it stopped being a story I was reading about.
It became a story that I am now personally living through.
Something happened recently that touched members of my own small rural church family in Louisiana in a way I could have never imagined.
An illegal alien driver lost control of his big rig, crossed the median, and ran head-on into a vehicle carrying two beloved elderly ladies from our congregation. Both women are in their early eighties.
They have spent their lives serving others, showing up when someone in the community needed help, and doing the quiet faithful work that holds a small town together. They are now suffering serious injuries because of this.
I am not going to name names or describe every detail while people I love are still hurting and things are still unresolved.
What I will tell you is this: Biden’s border betrayal is no longer abstract to me.
It is not a cable news segment I watched before bed. It is people I sit beside every Sunday. It is the kind of personal pain that makes the statistics feel like a punch in the gut.
I am furious and outraged that such a tragedy like this could happen in our small town.
And I think you should be too.
Let me put the numbers on the table, because they are worse than most people realize.
A nationwide audit conducted by the Department of Transportation, announced by Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy in February 2026, found that more than 30 states had issued tens of thousands of non-domiciled commercial driver’s licenses to drivers who were not legally authorized to receive them.
In New York, the audit revealed that over 50 percent of CDLs issued to foreign truck drivers were issued illegally. In California, they found 17,000 illegally issued CDLs. (Source: graves.house.gov) Fox News
The Trump administration has rescinded 28,000 illegally issued licenses and is now going after 194,000 more CDL holders, according to FMCSA’s final rule. (Source: Washington Examiner) Overdrive
In 2025 alone, at least 17 fatal crashes resulting in 30 deaths were caused by illegal aliens driving commercial vehicles with CDLs, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. (Source: House Homeland Security Committee)
These are not paperwork errors.
These are graves.
How did this happen?
The Biden administration reversed a Trump-era regulation that barred work permits for illegal immigrants, then mandated those work permits, which in many states created a pathway to a commercial driver’s license.
Blue states including California, New York, Pennsylvania, and Illinois became the primary issuers, taking advantage of loopholes that allowed state licensing agencies to issue CDLs to foreign drivers without properly verifying their driving history or immigration status.
Miller laid it out plainly: the Biden administration let people cross illegally, ferried them to destinations of their choice at taxpayer expense, issued them work permits, and those work permits became the key that unlocked a commercial driver’s license to operate an 80,000-pound vehicle on American highways. One loophole allowed state driver’s licensing agencies to issue CDLs to foreign drivers without verifying their driving history. Another allowed them to rely on Employment Authorization Documents, which do not screen for transportation safety.

These are not hypothetical risks.
They are documented tragedies.
Jashanpreet Singh, a 21-year-old Indian national, drove into slow traffic on Interstate 10 in Ontario, California without touching the brakes. Clarence Nelson, 76, his wife Lisa, 69, and Jaime Flores Garcia, 54, were killed. Singh pleaded guilty to three felony counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. DHS confirmed Singh crossed illegally in 2022 and was released by the Biden administration. California issued him a CDL in June 2025. Six days after the license restriction was lifted, he killed three people. (Source: Yahoo News) Substack
In Florida, an illegal alien failed the CDL test ten times in the span of two months in Washington state and managed to obtain his license in California. He then drove his 18-wheeler to Florida and caused a serious vehicle incident after making an illegal U-turn, instantly killing three people. (Source: House Homeland Security Committee)
In Tennessee, an illegal immigrant who did not speak English obtained a CDL illegally in New York, then caused a crash that killed one person. In another case, an illegal immigrant from India got a CDL in California and caused a crash in Oregon, killing two people. (Source: Congressman Sam Graves) Fox News
In Oklahoma, a three-day ICE operation along I-40 arrested 91 illegal immigrant truck drivers with CDLs. Most of their licenses had been issued by California, New York, Pennsylvania, and Illinois. (Source: Daily Wire) house
A five-year-old girl named Dalilah Coleman was severely injured when an illegal immigrant operating an 18-wheeler crashed into her car. The driver illegally entered the country during the Biden administration and had been given a license to drive a commercial vehicle by California. Her case was highlighted by President Trump at the State of the Union in February 2026. The proposed Dalilah Law would bar states from granting CDLs to illegal immigrants and revoke all currently issued licenses. (Source: Washington Examiner)
Here is what I want you to understand about the people in a small rural Louisiana church.
These are not people who just appear in statistics.
They do not make the evening news when something terrible happens to them.
They are the ones who show up at 6 in the morning to set up chairs before a funeral. They are the ones who organize the food train when someone in the congregation gets sick.
They are the deacons and Sunday school teachers and potluck organizers who hold the fabric of a community together year after year without recognition and without complaint.
When something happens to one of them, it does not just affect a family. It affects the whole body of a congregation that has been woven together over decades. It leaves a gap that everyone around them feels.
That is who gets put at risk when an 80,000-pound commercial vehicle is operated by someone who should not be behind the wheel. Not an abstract American. Not a statistic. A real person with a name and a pew and a casserole dish she brings to every church potluck.
The anger I feel about this is not political anger. It is the anger of someone who watched a policy failure reach through the television screen and touch the people he loves.
Biden’s border decisions were not just a bureaucratic failure. They were a betrayal. And the people paying the price are not the ones who made those decisions. They are the ones who were just trying to drive home.

This cast iron skillet has been seasoning for three generations.
This is where it gets passed to you.
It was entirely preventable. Every one of these crashes happened because of deliberate policy decisions that reversed working safety regulations. This was not an accident of governance. It was a choice.
