Florida Primary Night, And The Part Nobody Wants To Hear

Hawk · Hawk

Florida primary night, and two Democrats who both lost their districts in redistricting took very different paths out.

Jared Moskowitz went into a seat Trump carried by nine. Hawk has real disagreements with him, particularly on Israel, Gaza, and Iran, and still thinks he is the only Democrat with a shot at holding that district in November. Oliver Larkin was the candidate Hawk was pulling for, and Hawk’s read is that the seat was drawn to make that outcome impossible.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz went the other way, into a heavily Democratic district she does not live in, where several Black candidates were already running. Whoever won that primary wins in November. She won it. With the Voting Rights Act gutted and Southern redistricting aimed at exactly those seats, Hawk calls the choice what he thinks it is.

The through line is the one he keeps landing on: if you do not live there, the voters made their call. That applies to Wisconsin and Texas too. It also does not make every choice a good one.

Also, 36 rolls of Spree arrived.
