I have lived in Alberta for almost two decades now, and the province continues to both impress and infuriate me on a regular basis. But I was born and raised in British Columbia, as the son of two proud British Columbians, to two families with deep roots in British Columbia. And as I’ve been watching the unfolding car crash that is Alberta’s separatist referendum, and the broader campaign of political hostage-taking by the United Conservative Party, I can’t help but think of what people in BC are thinking.
That’s the subject of the feature story in this week’s Receipts newsletter. I also bring my receipts — lots of them — to a debunking of The Hub’s half-hearted attempt to run cover for Heather Exner-Pirot and the arguments she made in our debate on Ryan Jespersen’s show. You will note, I hope, that there is no pre-emptive throat clearing about where The Hub and Exner-Pirot get their funding, nor are there other attempts to build straw men with their argument. I simply take it on its face, and take it out to the woodshed. Enjoy.
