So today was ‘eclipse day’ with Porto having 98.2% of the sun covered by the moon. I didn’t manage to buy the glasses you need, but the lady at the Farmacia just lent me hers and we swapped them with each other, and some others who were ‘glassless’ in the street. On the other side of the Padrão square just outside the Tabacaria and two shops down from the Farmacia, you can see the whole of the sun clearly between the buildings. It really was an amazing site and at its peak there was some darkness, but not a lot. The incredible thing for me was that it seemed mostly like normal light, but when you put the glasses on you could see the sun was mostly covered, a thin strip of crescent on one one side. I suppose it shows how powerful the sun actually is (duh), even with a massive black disc, the moon, in front of it.
