Supernova is officially launching the Reading Room, an art salon. Our home for original shows and productions in the heart of Williamsburg.

With weekly events and programming, the Reading Room will be a place to read, write, play, drink, listen, impress, perform, and experience. Make interesting things with interesting people. Watch a show, be the show, make the world a little less annoying and more like the world we romanticized before the Internet numbed our senses.

I didn’t know what a third space was, but after floating this concept by pretty much everyone in my life, I realized that’s essentially what we’re creating around our core creative production studio offering (film, animation, and design).

And after asking around, it seems like many brands and agencies are excited about complementary physical spaces too.

There are few places to go as an adult beyond a bar, a coffee shop, your workplace, or a friend’s house. Community spaces are often underfunded and lack creativity and comfort, bars and restaurants are centered around what they are there to serve: food and drink. The Internet is noisy and draining.

We wanted to create a space that is designed for experience and inspiration, a place to cultivate a real sense of “these are my people, or I at least have a chance at meeting someone who emulates the kind of people I want to be.”

We built the Reading Room because we knew we would be our own customer. We wanted a place to read quietly on a Saturday and get some fresh air on our faces a rooftop without having to fight for a seat or be forced to drink a $25 cocktail. We wanted to produce original stories that make us feel inspired, with gatherings that feel artful and filled with soul.

In summary, we were looking to share new ideas, express creativity through physical production, and find common interests with a real sense of community like the days of old. So we built the Reading Room.
