Some words I wrote in the back of a Lyft from Venice to the Hollywood Hills last month…
Like an end credits movie scene
you think “everything will be okay”
when you finally
come back,
but the astroturf grass was always
spray-painted green.
It’s not the $16 smoothie, or
driverless car from LAX,
it’s that the movie of your life here is still
one you’ll always wanna watch on repeat—
no matter how unglamorous
it was to make.
You’ll always have a star here, kid.
Like the cars on the 10 beside you,
a thought passes by:
“every new garden starts off as seedlings,
there’s no point in comparing it to
towering, centuries-old
palm trees.”
They’ll all be dead soon, anyway,
didn’t you know?
Thanks for sticking around for this wild time in my life.
Love always,
Margaret
