07/01 Violence Prevention Summit and Sunday Carwash

Dear Rosedale Community,

It has been a busy summer already including with an amazing Juneteenth Parade and Block Party. Shout out to Miracle and Ashley Sharpe, Peace Baptist Church, Christ City Church, Pilgrim AME, DCWISE 1, and so many more who helped make it happen (I know I am missing folks, so I apologize.) We have a lot coming up, but two I want to highlight. With the gun violence in our community, I hope you will come on July 1st at 6:30pm to hear from an amazing group from Baltimore who is focused on community strategies. On July 1st at 6:30pm, Peace Baptist Church and myself will host a community conversation on violence prevention and have invited We Our Us Movement from Baltimore to come down and talk about success they have in community violence prevention strategies.

On June 29th starting at 1pm come out and get your car wash and some delicious fish fry to support the Rosedale Tiger Football team to raise money for their Atlanta trip in July.

The DC Council is debating the RFK stadium deal. You can sign up to testify here. This is the time to share our community opinions, wants, and concerns. There also will be on Wed, July 2, 6pm a RFK Listening Session with At-Large CM Robert White and Ward 3 CM Matt Frumin at St. Benedict's sponsored by Commissioner Payne.

When the temperature or heat index in the District reaches 95 degrees, District Government, twill implement the Heat Emergency Plan and activate cooling centers for residents to seek relief. You can find a list of cooling centers here.

Building on years of community engagement efforts for the Islands, DOEE and the Friends of Kingman and Heritage Islands are seeking to reestablish the Kingman + Heritage Islands Community Advisory Group to support ongoing efforts to deliver the Islands’ conservation, environmental education, and recreation goals. The Community Advisory Group will convene on a quarterly basis, beginning Fall 2025. Selected members will serve one-year terms (Fall 2025 – Summer 2026), with the ability to renew their commitment for up to three years. Participate in a research project about water quality and water access in DC. It is through the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) and George Washington University (GW). bit.ly/waterudcgw. Free at-home water quality testing for lead and other metals and Free pitcher and Brita filter to filter water for lead. 20-25 minute in-person survey at a place of your choice.

Join the Rosedale Library Thursday, July 17th at 6:30pm at their summer meeting to learn more about Rosedale Library and how to get involved with Rosedale Library Friends. At this meeting, they will discuss the future of the Rosedale Library, complications and consequences of this year's budget, fundraising opportunities, membership development, and more.
