We’ve been working on something new at MAiD in Canada: a free, interactive online course designed to help people better understand medical assistance in dying in Canada.
Our first course looks at some of the history of MAiD in Canada, how we got to where we are today, and the eligibility criteria and safeguards that currently apply. Rather than simply presenting pages of information, we’re building it to be interactive, with activities and opportunities to test your understanding as you go.
Before we make it more widely available, we need some help.
We’re looking for a small group of people to test the course and tell us what works — and, probably more importantly, what doesn’t.
And we don’t just want MAiD experts.
In fact, we’d like a real mix of testers:
People who work with MAiD or know the subject very well
Healthcare professionals who have some familiarity with MAiD but wouldn’t consider themselves experts
People who have followed the MAiD debate and know a little about it
People who know very little about MAiD and would genuinely be learning as they go
That last group is particularly important. If something makes perfect sense to someone who works with MAiD every day but leaves everyone else scratching their heads, we need to know that.
Testing will involve completing the course online and then giving us some feedback about things like clarity, usefulness, difficulty, navigation, the interactive activities, and anything you think we could improve.
We think the course is coming together really well. Building an interactive course like this takes a bit of time, but we anticipate having it ready for testing in about two weeks. We’ll contact our testers by email as soon as it’s ready to go.
