Mark London · Mark’s Substack

Dear Gentle Reader,

Today is the day. Mister Nemo #1 is officially on shelves at your local comic shop, and I have been waiting a looong time to type that sentence!

Jules Verne gave the world a captain whose name literally means no one. A genius who looked at the surface world, wanted no part of it, and vanished beneath the waves. That idea has haunted me for years. What does it cost a man to erase himself? And what happens when the world he ran from finally kicks in his door?

That is Mister Nemo. A high stakes thriller about secrts, survival, and a war brewing beneath the surface. Our Nemo is a ghost. No records, no history, no name. Just a quiet life far from everything, until a squad of masked killers shows up at his door and learns the hard way why this man wanted to be left alone. Meanwhile, a Navy investigator starts pulling on threads nobody wants pulled, and every one of them leads somewhere deeper. I mean that literally.

Mister Nemo #1, Cover A by Duncan Roleau. In stores now.

This book expands the Underworld Universe, and if you have been paying attention to what we are building there, you already know the water is about to get very deep.

Interior pages from Mister Nemo #1 by Alden Kaye, Alex Sinclair, and Pat Brosseau.

Now let me brag about this team for a minute, because they earned it.

When Alden Kaye won our 2024 Talent Search, I told anyone who would listen that we had found something special. This book is the proof. Alden’s pages move. Glass shatters, bodies fly, and every panel lands with the confidence of a veteran and the hunger of an artist with everything to prove. This is why the Talent Search exists. We find the next great voices in comics and we hand them the keys.

Then we surounded Alden with legends. Alex Sinclair, whose colors you have seen on some of the biggest books this medium has ever produced, gives every page a cinematic glow. And Pat Brosseau letters this thing so every gunshot and every whisper carries its proper weight. I wrote the story. These three made it breathe.

Covers B and C for Mister Nemo #1.

We went all in on the covers, too. Three very different doors into the same world. Cover A puts you behind the glass with the man himself. Cover B lays the whole conspiracy out in a single image. Cover C is pure motion, Nemo coming straight at you with nowhere left to hide. Pick your favorite, or do what I would do and grab all three :)

The early word has been fantastic. Reviews are already live at AIPT, Graphic Policy, and Gutternaut, with coverage from The Beat, Bleeding Cool, Comic Watch, Comic Crusaders, and Smash Pages. Watching critics connect with this world on day one never gets old.

Where to get it

Mister Nemo #1 is available right now at your local comic shop, and you can also find it here:

Mad Cave Studios: https://madcavestudios.com/product/mister-nemo-issue-1/

Simon & Schuster: https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Mister-Nemo-Vol-1/Mark-London/Mister-Nemo/9781545828496

One favor. If you read the book and love it, ask your shop to add Mister Nemo to your pull list this week. Final order cutoff for issue 2 is Monday, July 27. That is the day retailers lock in their numbers, and a preorder is the single most powerful thing a reader can do for an independent series. Issue 2 hits shops on August 19, with issues 3 and 4 landing September 30 and October 28. The war beneath the surface is just getting started.

Come see us

San Diego Comic Con is next week, July 23 to 27. Find us at Booth 2806, where we will have convention exclusives waiting for you, including Mister Nemo #1 and Honor and Curse #1. I will be signing at the booth on Friday, July 24, and if horror is your thing, catch me on the Descend Into Madness panel with Scott Snyder, Becky Cloonan, Tula Lotay, and more. Then we do it all again at New York Comic Con, October 8 to 11.

One more thing

Nemo is not the only book of mine hitting shelves today. Honor and Curse: Eternal Vol. 1 is out now, collecting the first four issues in one package. Honor and Curse is one of the first worlds I ever built at Mad Cave, and returning to it with this creative team has been one of the great joys of my career. If you have been waiting for the perfect jumping point, this is it.

Grab it here: https://madcavestudios.com/product/honor-and-curse-eternal-vol-1/

And here’s the trailer for a recap of what you're getting into.

Honor anc Curse: Eternal Trailer

Twelve years ago, nobody knew who we were. Today we get to launch new legends into the world, and that only happens because you keep showing up on Wednesdays. I do not take a single one of them for granted.

Thank you for being here. Now go meet Mister Nemo.

Stay Mad,

-Mark London
