Machinefabriek Update June 2026

Hello from a scorchingly hot Schiedam. Here’s some things I’d like to share:

No, this has nothing to do with Pulses & Places, my album with Andrea Belfi I recently posted about. This is a new track, and like the Bass Noah track from March, it’s released as a stand-alone digital single*. The basis is one simple, slow, continuous pulse that goes on for the complete duration of the track, and is build upon with electronics, horn samples, and the occasional glitch. The track can be found on my Bandcamp page, as well as on most other streaming services.

*The track fits so well with Bass Noah that I decided to make a limited 3” CDr with both tracks combined. It’s now available on my Bandcamp.

Released last week, as limited edition vinyl, download, and on streaming platforms. The EP collects four tracks taken from the score of a dance performance by Roshanak Morrowatian, with vocal samples from Jenny Hval, Molly Berg and Lisa Nordström. I’ve got two copies of the 10” vinyl edition left to sell.

This EP has just been released. Hyperrêve is the nom de plume of French poet Samuel Lequette. He created the track Ultra-noir together with producer Thomas Knak, and asked Extrawelt and me to make remixes of that track. These (Extrawelt made two reworks) can now be found on this EP, which is out in digital formats, as well as on a CD edition. I have a few of these for sale on my Bandcamp page.

I probably posted enough about this one, but I have so many copies of the CD edition left still, that I can’t resist promoting it once more ;-). I honestly think it’s a perfect introduction for Machinefabriek newbies.
Oh, and there’s also a few t-shirts left…

Recently I performed at Zondvloed in Deventer (NL), an open air festival for poetry and music. I was a bit weary, cause my slot was during the audience’s dinner break, and because performing outside is not exactly ideal. But luckily the organisation gave me an amazing PA, with enormous subs (bass speakers).

It started with a short duo with poet (and composer) Rozalie Hirs, as a presentation for her new book, and after about five or so minutes, I continued in solo mode.

The speaker system was so powerful that I really felt emerged in the sound while performing. The bass was just enourmous, like a weapon, and such great fun to play with. I also lost all sense of time, and once I had finished my set, I found out it was about 35 minutes, instead of the hour that was reserved for it… oops…

Anyway, the set was (thanks to a broken cable) poorly recorded by me, and a bit better by audience member Jan van den Brink*. I mixed these recordings, and together it doesn’t sound too aweful.

Jan van den Brink invited me to be part of his Floppy-Chain project; an old school 1.4 MB floppy disc being sent (together with an external drive) from artist to artist, with each making something especially for that medium. It can be audio, but also image, text, or video. As long as it fits the tiny capacity of the floppy. I’ve created Unboxing Cue, a 32-second piece based on the sounds of me unwrapping the package, and sent the result to Berlinde Deman. For the Dutchies: a documentary by Lex Reitsma about designer Kho Liang Ie. The film premièred at EYE (Amsterdam) last week, and can now be streamed on NPOstart. And if it sparks your interest: the exhibition about Ie at Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam is still running.
