As of this very moment, Gilded in Vengeance is now on sale. For a while there, I thought this day might never come. The full draft was due on Revelle’s release day (February 14th, 2023), but I didn’t hand in a good draft until a year and a half year later.
I rewrote Gilded three times. That’s more than 300,000 deleted words.
I truly considered quitting. Breaking my contract.
I wondered if I was a fraud, one who preached craft on Turning To Story but couldn’t write another book.
The plot, I confessed to friends, felt too ambitious: 4 revenge subplots—plus a massive romantic arc, let alone dual character arcs—within a YA-length novel?
But I finally got it right. And I am so deeply in love with this story.
If you’ve followed me here from Revelle, thank you for sticking around for the next one. Although Gilded is a darker story, it’s just as romantic, glittering, and twisty as Revelle.
If you’ve found me through Turning to Story, I hope you’ll appreciate all the craft that went into this book. The rewriting process was largely due to what I was learning for the podcast. And the final product is a direct result of Seven Layer Plot Dip.
